Unai Lopez de Armentia is a Spanish Theatre Practitioner who has worked in theatre and lived in England for the last ten years.
He graduated from a BA Hons degree in European Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College in 2003, where he studied practically as well as theoretically all the main European Theatrical influences of the twentieth century.
Unai has been a member, main actor and Training Research Director of ZECORA URA THEATRE Company for the last five years. As theatre facilitator and performer he has visited eight countries, performed in over ten professional theatre productions and led more than fifteen theatre workshops as well as directing several pieces.
As a theatre practitioner he has explored in depth the areas of clowning, puppetry, object work, site-specific and visual arts, including vast experience of street performances. He also has knowledge of mask work (neutral, larva, half masks), and has explored dance-theatre and Japanese Butoh.
However his greatest interest as a theatre practitioner lies in the investigation of the actor’s craft. Through dedicated theoretical and practical research Unai has developed a training method based on several theatrical and non-theatrical practices of expression. Some sources of investigation include collaborations and workshops with the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards (Italy), Song of the Goat Theatre Company (Poland), Lume Teatro (Brazil), Theatre of the oppressed- Augusto Boal (Brazil) and many others.
Unai has passed on the knowledge acquired throughout his career in lectures and workshops with young adults, theatre students and professionals at Symposiums, Conferences, Universities, Schools and Festivals internationally.
Other skills include several years of practice of the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. Unai is also an accomplished drummer and percussionist.
