[ The spatial architecture dictates the frame through which the performance is constantly re-developed ]
ALICE #2: 'Doors' contains ZECORA URA’s interest to investigate the theories and practises of Polish theatre practitioners Tadeusz Kantor and Jerzy Grotowski. Taking into account their research legacy on the history of the performer’s body and the found object, combined with distinct Butoh training practices, the ensemble will endeavour in a journey driven by series of tasks towards a non-language based performance.
The ALICE Project will continue to travel to diverse sites for spatial and contextual re-development, taking particular attention to the specificity of the new site, allied to its single architecture and the cultural factors that surround it, which will dictate the frame through which the performance is constantly re-developed.
The ALICE Project follows a series of studies ZECORA URA has developed on Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’, which initiated in September 2002 with ALICE #1: 'Alice in Wonderland?' and have travelled with performances and workshops throughout UK, Portugal and Finland. ALICE #2: 'Doors' will have its initial stages of practical development in London from September 2004, then touring to Brazil in November and to Japan and other European countries from April 2005.
The ALICE Project is strengthened by collaborations with exchange visits to theatre companies and practitioners around the world, including Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed (Rio de Janeiro) and Capoeira Master Marcelo Angola (Bahia) in Brazil.
